"It might be the funnest book Boyle has written for a while. You get the sense he's enjoying himself as he writes and that very definitely transmits itself across to the reader. By the time you reach the end - of a novel, it should be said, in which people wrestle with belief, in which people try to find out what can fill the gap left by the apparent discovery that God is dead, in which people attempt to see the universe - the last line throws its arms around you and leaves you with a meaty hug and a big laugh out loud. "Fuck God," Tim Leary says, "Let's get high." As ever, it's beautifully written. As ever, it's like a combination of a great, flavoursome meal, a supremely relaxing bath, a long conversation with your best friend and the thrills and spills of a supersafe rollercoaster (which you know has been engineered by the world's best engineer). In other words, it's a knockout."
