All told, despite the good reviews and word of mouth it's generating, Ice Cream Man feels underwhelming and, in places, weak to us. It might improve but on the basis of this first collection, it would take some almighty recommendations from people we trust to dabble further. The art is fine - the problem here is with the writing. It just doesn't work anywhere near hard enough. 30 pages of comic is more than enough to fashion a killer story. Time spent trawling the EC Archives to see how it's done would not be time wasted...
