If you set Imagine Wanting Only This alongside a book like, say, Nina Bunjevac's Fatherland, you can see what is missing from Imagine Wanting Only This. Undoubtedly the book shows a lot of promise, but there is also a slightly worrying sense of "hey, I just might be a genius" in amongst all of the navel gazing.
