“A literary curio” – Memoirs of a Book Thief by Alessandro Tota & Pierre Van Hove (tr. Edward Gauvin)

It's Paris in the 1950s. We first meet Daniel Brodin, the rather lugubrious looking gent who graces the cover of the book and who might nominally be called our hero, as he attempts to steal a book from a bookshop. Ah, you might think, so this is a graphic novel about a young man who steals books - sort of A Bout De Souffle by way of Can You Forgive Me? But that misses the mark, somewhat. After a short pursuit across Paris, Daniel is apprehended - at least to the extent of having to give back the book he's taken - and promptly makes a couple of new friends, impressed by the fact that he actually stole two books, so managed to make off with one.
